Building an Intentional Family Life That Reflects Your Values

Dec 29, 2024

Do you ever feel like your life and family life is running on autopilot, with each day blending into the next? Balancing daily demands while staying true to your values can feel overwhelming.

Without a clear vision, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters, leaving you feeling disconnected or reactive. But with intentionality, you can create a family dynamic that feels aligned, connected, and meaningful every day. In my coaching framework, one of the core pillar of moving towards living more intentionally is project managing your own progress. What does that mean? It means you take charge of your growth journey, actively defining the outcomes that matter most to you, and then gathering the right support and resources to achieve those goals.

Step 1: Define Your Desired Outcomes

The first step is getting clear on what success looks like for you. Unlike external goals (e.g., make more money, find your soulmate), we focus on internal outcomes: How do you want to feel in your daily life? What kind of relationship do you want with your partner and children? This clarity will become the foundation of your custom curriculum.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  • What emotions or experiences do I want to cultivate in my family life? (e.g., connection, joy, peace)

  • What skills do I need to develop to achieve these outcomes? (e.g., emotional regulation, communication, setting boundaries)

Step 2: Gather Resources and Build Your Custom Curriculum

Once you’ve defined your desired outcomes, the next step is to build a curriculum that supports your unique goals. My coaching program provides foundational tools and resources, but you’ll also decide which additional skills you need to learn and practice.

Core Components of Your Custom Curriculum:

  • Training: Foundational knowledge and skills you need to get started.

  • Group Support: Community spaces for shared learning, feedback, and encouragement.

  • Peer Support: Connecting with others at a similar level for accountability and shared insights.

  • 1-1 Coaching: Personalized guidance to help you overcome specific obstacles and refine your approach.

  • Practice: Consistent, intentional application of what you’re learning to solidify your growth.

Similar to mastery of an instrument or sport.

Step 3: Track Your Progress and Adjust Along the Way

This journey is dynamic and requires you to regularly evaluate your progress and make adjustments as needed. Instead of measuring success by external milestones, you’ll track internal shifts—how you feel, how connected you are with your family, and how aligned you are with your values.

How to Track Your Progress:

  • Regular reflections on your emotions and interactions.

  • Quarterly check-ins to celebrate wins and adjust your focus.

  • Annually refine the outcomes you are seeking & plan

Living intentionally isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. By defining your outcomes, gathering the right resources, and tracking your growth, you can create a family life that feels deeply aligned with your values and vision.
